What is HIPAA?

HIPAA is the acronym for the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act of 1996. There are two main provisions of HIPAA:

TITLE I: Health Insurance Reform—designed to protect health insurance coverage for workers and their families when they leave or lose their jobs.

TITLE II: Administrative Simplification—requires national standards for electronic health care transactions and national identifiers for providers, health plans, and employers. It also addresses security and privacy of health data.

How Does HIPAA Affect Your Practice?
Broadly and deeply, especially under Title II.
